About Us
Anahata Grace is a nonprofit organization serving vulnerable communities through compassionate action to promote healing and social change. Our mission is to share the physical and mental health benefits of yoga and holistic wellness services to individuals in need.
We do this through two campaigns. Our local campaign, Finding Grace, provides yoga classes and other wellness services to domestic violence and other trauma survivors, homeless adults and at-risk youth. Our international campaign, Anahata International, provides yoga teacher training in post-conflict countries.
How do we do this?
- We focus on offering yoga as a tool for individuals to reconnect with their inner strength and confidently reestablish themselves in their communities.
- We partner with community organizations and facilitate access to yoga and holistic wellness services.
Core Values
- Ahimsa (अहिंसा): Nonviolence. Abstinence from injury, harmlessness, the not causing of pain to any living creature in thought, word, or deed at any time.
- Satya (सत्य): truthfulness, word and thought in conformity with the facts.
- Kshama (क्षमा): patience, releasing time, functioning in the now.
- Dhriti (धृति): steadfastness, overcoming non-perseverance, fear, and indecision; seeing each task through to completion.
- Dava (दया): compassion; conquering callous, cruel and insensitive feelings toward all beings.
- Arjava (अर्जव): honesty, straightforwardness, renouncing deception and wrongdoing.
- Everyone can benefit from yoga
- Yoga should be accessible to all who seek it
- Everyone should have access to holistic and wellness services
- All are accepted, respected, valued and heard
- We are all teachers and students
Organization History
Anahata International traces back to September 2007 when Angela Cerkevich worked with Never Again Rwanda to organize a yoga teacher training in Kigali. On December 21, 2007, we incorporated and we publicly launched in February 2008. The Rwanda Project continued and expanded. In March 2010, we merged with Finding Grace, a Washington D.C. based non-profit organization serving vulnerable communities by teaching yoga and providing other wellness services. As Anahata Grace, we now look forward to empowering vulnerable communities locally and globally.
