1) Dana Week Yoga Class for Anahata International - Nov. 23, 2-3:30 p.m.
The week of Nov. 17-23 is Dana Week at Circle Yoga. “Dana” means generosity. Please attend this special Dana Week class taught by Ifeoma Nwokoye to benefit Anahata International. A representative from Anahata will be at class to provide a brief overview of the organization. This is a donation-based class, so pay what you like directly to Anahata International. All levels welcome. For more information, go to http://www.van-studios.com/CY/workshops.php.
2) Cultivating Gratitude: A Thanksgiving Day Workshop with Megan Davis - 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
In this workshop at Flow Yoga Center (1450 P St.), we will do 60 minutes of vinyasa and pranayama and 30 minutes of restorative poses followed by a 30 minute yoga nidra practice.
Yoga teaches us to be grateful for the present moment and unveils the primary principle of the universe, sri (abundance).
“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” –Melody Beattie Cost:
Please bring cash/check. We recommend $25 but any amount is welcome!

It was a true pleasure to be amidst such a vibrant, well-meaning group of local yogis. We caught up with friends, old and new, and shared Anahata’s mission and work with many of you. The Rwandan yoga teachers have recently formed the “Kicukiru Yoga for Peace Club” having established a president, secretary and treasurer to keep tabs on things. Agnas, a natural leader, is president and determined to expand the yoga community beyond the outskirts of Kigali. I spent about an hour on the phone this weekend with Benon, Anahata’s Rwandan yoga coordinator, and each of the teachers to learn about their exciting new endeavor. In addition to offering yoga classes to the public, holding regular meetings and planning for the Yoga Peace Club’s participation in local community events, they have also begun collecting funds to create an account for the Peace Club. So far, the funds will be used to provide refreshments to yoga practitioners. This marks the beginning of sustainability of the project, demonstrating the teachers initiative and planting roots for positive social change.

After September 2007, recently trained Yoga teachers in Kigali created the “Yoga Peace Club of Kicukiro.” (Kicukiro is one of the three districts that make up Kigali city.) In addition to holding regular community classes the group has made a susbstantial effort in establishing a yoga presence at local events. In April, 2008 the club coordinated a yoga program at two of the genocide commemoration events.
