The Art of Remembrance

By cuzzell, 24 May 2010

Next Monday, May 31, 2010, Megan Davis will be honoring Memorial Day with a workshop that will explore the art of remembrance as it relates to the practice of yoga.

In this workshop we will do 60 minutes of active vinyasa and pranayama and 30 minutes of restorative poses followed by a 30 minute yoga nidra practice.

Appropriate for students comfortable in Flow 1 or Flow 2.

This is a donation class. All proceeds will go towards Megan’s project to develop an adaptive yoga manual and teacher training for Anahata International teachers on the ground in Rwanda. Please bring cash/check. We recommend $25 but any amount is welcome!

So join us at Flow Yoga Center from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. in honor of Memorial Day.

On May 22nd, come on over to Flow

By cuzzell, 20 May 2010

Jen Watts Welsh will be bringing you this Saturday’s Flow Yoga Center donation class, an energetic flow appropriate for all levels.   Jen will be incorporating global music in the spirit of her upcoming move to West Africa and Anahata Grace’s international mission, so get ready to experience a sequence of poses to open the heart and consider the world beyond your own mat.

Jen started practicing yoga at 16 as a supplement to competitive swimming and soccer.  But it was the yoga that stuck.  Upon moving to San Francisco in 2004, she began practicing yoga more seriously under Rusty Wells and Janet Stone, and became inspired to complete teacher training someday.  Jen recently graduated Flow’s TT program and incorporates what she loves most from her own practice into her classes: great music, laughter and a challenging but nurturing flow.

WelcomeOmDC – Your yoga, fitness, and wellness hub in the District

By cuzzell, 19 May 2010

Every week, Anahata Grace will honor our volunteer and staff teacher experiences through a weekly blog.  This week, Jamie Boese, co-founder of WelcomeOmDC, will chat about the importance of a website dedicated to yogis and other wellness-minded folks in the District in establishing networks among these inspiring communities.

Back in the Fall, during my teacher training at Flow Yoga Center, I had a random conversation with a friend over brightly colored hoodies at lululemon athletica Logan Circle. The gist of this conversation was “why is there no central place to go for yoga information in DC?” and “OMG, there are so many amazing local business owners and role models in our fitness community – why don’t we talk about them more?” And WelcomeOmDC was born in that moment.

By cuzzell, 17 May 2010

Stroga has jumped on the community-based donation class band wagon and will now be offering weekly donation classes every Saturday at 10:15.  Teaches will vary and so will the charities which the classes support, as each instructor gets the opportunity to choose the organization for which s/he teaches.

This Saturday, May 22nd kicks it all off  with yogi Jeffrey Platts who will lead a 90 minute class for all levels of students to enjoy.  The class will include a centering, warm-up, energizing asanas, cool down and a final relaxation — all aimed at cultivating mindfulness and intention. Students can look forward to a fun class designed to stretch, strengthen and balance the body, supported by a soundtrack of funky, soulful and uplifting rhythms.  Come sweat and move for a great cause!

May 1st: Flow Yoga Center Donation Class

By cuzzell, 27 April 2010

The fourth Anahata Grace donation class will be taught by vinyasa flow registered instructor Maria Hunter this Saturday afternoon at 1:30.  Her offering to you this week will be a harmony infused class, plentiful of therapeutic asanas.  Restorative postures are an important part of any long-term yoga practice: they recharge our energy reserves, heal the effects of stress, and bring our nervous systems into a more balanced state.  It’s a gentle way to begin to be the change we wish to see in the world.  When we begin to bring ourselves into balance we are able to reach out to others and to bring the healing that we have achieved for ourselves into our communities.   This Saturday’s Flow Yoga donation harmony flow class will blend gentle movement and long held restorative poses with soothing music and aromatherapy.  All levels are welcome, so come one come all no matter where you currently reside on your yogic path.
